Sample Drawing for the New Incense and Informal Poll
Today’s post is a drawing for free samples of the new incense fragrance, which should be on the website at the end of the week. I’ll draw 5 winners, and each winner can pick two other SSS samples of his/her choice to go with the incense sample. The drawing is open to all countries that are on my usual shipping list (see the website Policies/Shipping page for the full list).
Just leave a comment here if you’d like to be in the drawing, and as part of your comment I’m hoping you’ll tell me which name you like best out of these four possibilities:
— Incense Pure (a little softer sounding than Pure Incense)
— Pure Incense (more usual English order than Incense Pure)
— Incense Reverie (pretty, but perhaps more light-hearted than the scent)
— Incense Tranquil (pretty too, like the old name but in English, fits the scent)
I thought I would also say thank you to the people who already posted a comment on the naming issue and helped me brainstorm a few days ago on the blog. Jo, Suzanne, Tania, Beth, Matthew, Laura, and Elena, I’d like to send you freebie samples of the new incense. Laura, you tried the 2-17-3 so I can send you the final 3-14-2, which is the same but with a tad more vanilla absolute. Thanks so much to all of you for helping me with the name! Just send me your addresses and let me know another sample you’d like to go with the incense sample.
After I receive my new bottles in a week or two, I’ll probably also offer a free bottle of the incense for a drawing, but it’d be fun to wait to do that when I have the new bottles in production and then someone can win one of the pretty new bottles. 🙂 Not sure spring is the best time to give out an incense fragrance though, lol, so we’ll see how quickly my new bottles come and then decide what to do. It might make sense to wait until fall for that and give a bottle of the new white floral instead, if it is done reasonably soon. At any rate, I’d like to do a draw for one of the pretty new bottles after I get them.
The notes for this incense are frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood, cedar, labdanum, cistus, patchouli, oakmoss, elemi, angelica root, guaiacwood, orris, musk, and vanilla absolute. A full description can be seen here: Incense. When you think about the name, it helps to know that this is purely incense, which to me includes woods and resins as well as frankincense and myrrh. It’s not a floral incense, but it has some vanilla and a small touch of musk for softening. I’d like to do a rose incense and the reverie name might be fun to save for that.
So, just leave a comment below if you’d like to be in the drawing. If you have no opinion on the name you can still enter. I’m not using this as a formal poll but just to see if there are strong opinions on any of these (good or bad), and to see if there are issues I’d not thought about. It’s been hard for me to pick because I really like the old name of Encens Tranquille, but this is so much different that it needs a new name. I think Incense Pure and Pure Incense are my favorites at the moment. I may save Reverie for the floral incense, and Incense Tranquil may still be too similar to the old, though I like it.
I’ll leave the drawing open until at least Thursday eve and will probably do the drawing either late Thursday eve or Friday morning. You can add your name any time before then. Thanks so much!
Can’t wait for the new incense perfume! I’ve been anxiously awaiting it since last fall. I like the name Incense Tranquil.
While I’m not going to wear it until next fall (have been also wanting your new white floral for spring/summer), but don’t want to miss the “window of opportunity” to purchase this one. Will save it for fall.
Hi Sheryl! Will put you in the drawing, thanks! I like the name Incense Tranquil too. I find incense to be soothing so Incense Tranquil fits the scent for me. Don’t know if that’s enough of a name change to avoid confusion, but maybe so.
I should have this available for the future (not a limited edition), so if some people want to sample now and buy next fall that should be fine. I wear incense all year (unless it’s really hot) but realize many people prefer it for the cooler months. Our summers have a lot of days that are temperate enough for most any scent so I can get away with more here.
I’ve made a lot of progress on the white floral the last few days! I’m getting a drydown I like much better. Have a few more changes to make before I’m ready to send testers.
I have one other scent in the works that I’m excited about too, but will wait to give specifics until it is further along.
It’s been a long time Laurie! I still have all your samples stashed aways in a little box of its own, waiting for a special day when I can pull it out for a fellow incense lover =) I’ve become more and more fond of these incense, dark, rich, frankincense and myrrh scents, does this mean I’m getting older? =P My bottle of Violette Encens is always there for me when I need to be comforted, encouraged, and empowered.
Anyway, I liked Encens Absolu from a few posts back… but Incense Pure seem a bit friendlier and dare I say American? What about Incense Tribute / Hommage à l’encens…
Hi Monica! Good to hear from you! Hommage/Tribute are great ideas but Amouage just came out with attars by those names. That’s the hard part about incense names — so many have already been used! Pure works for me though. I’ll add you to the draw, thanks for stoppping by!
To me, Incense Pure sounds the best. Reverie reminds me of Andy Tauers Reverie au Jardin and by that I mean, I would kind of expect something floral perhaps as well. Tranquil is also ok, and even though I find incense soothing, I don’t think of it as having a quiet/soothing character (hm, this doesn’t sound as it should). 🙂
I hope it helps a little.
And I hope I win a sample. 🙂
Hi Laurie,
I’m glad the incense is ready. Please enter my name in the drawing. I could use it today–it’s a cold, rainy, windy day. Quite a let down after the 70’s of last weekend.
Anyway, I like the name “Pure Incense” the best. For me it seems to flow more naturally than Incense Pure.
Thanks!
Ann
Hi Laurie,
So excited about the incense being ready. Wanted to get a sample when I ordered before, but you were reformulating it. I like the name Incense Pure. I, too, wear scents “out of season” if that is what I feel like.
Thanks, Julie
No need to enter me in the drawing, but I just wanted to say I like Incense Pure. Second choice is Incense Tranquil.
Look for a private email from me within a few days.
I also like Incense Pure the best. And would love to be entered for the samples!
Hi Ines, that’s one reason a name like Pure may be safer than one like Tranquil — pure has less expectations associated with it because it doesn’t assign a feeling. Sometimes people can be disappointed if they don’t get out of the scent what the name says they should. Glad you think the pure is ok. Will put you in the draw!
Hi Ann C, thanks, will do! We are going back and forth now between welcome previews of spring and cooler rainy weather too.
Hi Julie, thanks! Will add you to the draw. Looks like pure will be ok and that’s a big help!
Thanks so much for input Mals!
Hi Amy H! Thanks so much for input and will add you to the draw too!
Hi Laurie! Glad the new incense fragrance is finally nearing its debut–I know you’ve put many long hours into its development.
I would like to be included in the drawing, please. While I generally prefer French perfume names (Fete d’Encens and Encens Absolu were very nice), my vote goes to Incense Pure. Incense Tranquil would be my first choice, but am afraid it might confuse those Encens Tranquille fans who haven’t been following development of the new scent.
Agree that the Reverie name would be lovely for a future floral/rose incense. Also looking forward to the debut of Bouquet Blanche, and Zen Musk too!
Sharon
Hi Sharon! Am happy to put your name in the draw! You know, someone just pointed out to me that if I turn it around into Tranquil Incense that would be less confusing and more clearly a new scent. So I should toss that out too. It looks like Incense Pure may be a good choice though. Thanks so much for input!
I think that Incense Pure is a good name and am looking forward to it. I would like to enter your drawing for a sample.
Thanks!
I am a bit obsessed with the Incense perfumes right now. I love the oils you chose for this blend. It seems like Incense Pure has the best feel to it and might adequately describe the blend to me. I will put this blend on my list of “must try’s” thank you!
Hi Bonita and Nikki! Thanks very much for your input and I’ll add you both to the drawing!
Laurie,
I really like the name Incense Pure — it’s very fitting with your description of the fragrance, and the name itself has a soothing sound to it.
Thank you so much for your offer of a sample. I’m getting ready to place another small order with you very soon, so to save you postage, I’ll wait until then to take you up on it. (When your new bottles come in!)
Have a good week!
I like Incense Pure – sounds lovely
Hi Suzanne, you are sweet to think about combining shipping. If we do that be sure to tell me several freebies you’d like, and if my bottles are delayed I’ll send the incense on out ahead instead.
Hi Narguile! Thanks! I’ve got you in the drawing too!
Hi Laurie,
I like Pure incense or Incense tranquil for names.
The fragrance sounds fabulous!
Good afternoon! Please put me in the drawing as well! I missed the boat on the original Encens scent – found my sample of it and then discovered it was no more – wah! I’m glad that there is another one coming down the pike for our enjoyment.
For names, my vote goes to Incense Tranquil as Pure Incense sounds too generic to me.
No matter what the name, I’m looking forward to smelling this fabulous sounding incense perfume!
Hi Ceil and Debra! Debra, I know what you mean; Tranquil does offer more imagery than the more general Pure, though maybe people can add their own associations to Pure once they sniff it. Will put you both in the drawing. Thanks!
It’s so much fun following you with these new scents! I think your work is great. Of course by now you know I’m very excited for the BB to be finished! I wore my Gardenia Musk #26 on Sunday and I love it every bit as much as the first time I wore it. My favorite name is the Incense Pure. That is a really great name and just sounds like a great fragrance! Thanks Laurie
-Beth-
Hi Beth,
Glad you’ve enjoyed the gardenia! I doubt the incense will be your thing, but you may enjoy a sniff to see what it is. Hope you like BB when it is done! 🙂 Thanks for name input!
Okay – I’ll cast my vote for Incense Pure. Would be hypocritical of me to vote otherwise at this point, lol!
You can bypass me for the draw, Laurie. I’ll give the others a chance.
a:)
Oooh this sounds divine! 😀 I like the names Incense Reverie and Incense Tranquil. 😀
Hi Laurie! I like Incense Pure, and can’t wait to smell it. Your work has always impressed me, and I love your woody and incense perfumes!
Carrie
I like Incense Pure. It is descriptive and accurate but the word reversal sounds poetic.
Thanks for the vote AnnYM!
Hi Elizabeth! Thanks, and have you in the drawing!
Hi Carrie, thanks so much! Added you too!
Hi Susan B, that’s what I was hoping. 🙂 Thanks, and put you in the drawing!
I can’t wait to try this incense. I like Incense Pure, simple but still conjure the vivid image for me.
Please include me in this sample drawing.
Sounds gorgeous Laurie! I’m rather partial to Incense Tranquil myself, but do like Incense Pure also.
I adore the Frankincense CO2 I have, to me it takes frankincense into a whole other dimension!!
Holly
Hi Lee and Holly! Great, thanks! Will add your names too!
Another vote for “Incense Pure” here. I like the rhythm of it, if that makes sense. It also works as a description to capture the feeling after medication or yoga – you are “Incense Pure” – all your negative energy burned away with the incense. 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway – winner or not, I’m looking forward to trying your new scent!
Ha, I totally meant meditation, not medication. Whoops.
I figured that out, lol. I make typos like that too. Congrats, your # came up and I’ll be sending samples your way! 🙂
Hi Sue,
I like that interpretation of incense pure! A new way to think of the phrase. Thanks for stopping by, and I will add your name. I think I’ll do the drawing Thursday eve.
Hi there– I think the fragrance sounds beautiful, and I like the name Incense Tranquil very much, but since I long for time for enjoying a tranquil reverie, Incense Reverie also appeals. I think Incense perfumes are poerfect for the early spring. I hope you will enter me in your drawing, I would love to try your work– mary
Hi Mary, will do! I agree, early spring does bring plenty of weather still cool enough to make me feel like wearing incense. Thanks for stopping by!
Just for comment–not for drawing — I’m with Sharon who said:
“Incense Tranquil would be my first choice, but am afraid it might confuse those Encens Tranquille fans who haven’t been following development of the new scent.”
If I were reading at Basenotes or Makeupalley, etc., and saw *Incense Tranquil* reviews…I might wonder if it’s the same fragrance formula as Encens Tranquille but the creator simply changed the name to English. “Incense Pure” is a fresh and lovely descriptive name to my non-French speaking eyes/ears!
Thanks so much, Laura, for taking time to comment. I think you and Sharon are right about that being potentially confusing. I’ve decided to go with Incense Pure. Looks like that makes the most sense and is getting overall good feedback. I’ll keep the drawing open until this evening though in case anyone else would like to join. Thanks again!
Thank you for allowing us to have input in the naming of your new incense blend, Laurie. I like Incense Tranquil best, but also like Incense Pure. Whichever you ultimately choose, I am sure I will love the scent. Good luck with your decision.
Blessings of love and good scent to all!
Lisa
Hi Lisa! Thanks so much for your feedback and good wishes! I’ll add you to the drawing tonight!
Hi there,
I’d just thought I’d throw my 2cents in. I like Incense Tranquil. That seems to capture the mood of incense. The “Pure” description makes me think of sanitized, clean, soapified approaches…rather than the richness of a single component. Tranquil is a mood and a means to float through the day. Maybe it’s too late! and the name has been decided!
Cheryl
Hi Cheryl!
I thought about that too. I think it depends on your associations with Pure. It can mean pure as in pristine and clean, or pure as in exclusive of other things (just incense), or all sorts of slight variations on the theme, and some may think of the more clinical associations while others think of the more esoteric ones.
Here’s an interesting list of shadings of meaning for pure at dictionary.com:
pure /pyʊər/ –adjective,pur·er, pur·est.
1.free from anything of a different, inferior, or contaminating kind; free from extraneous matter: pure gold; pure water.
2.unmodified by an admixture; simple or homogeneous.
3.of unmixed descent or ancestry: a pure breed of dog.
4.free from foreign or inappropriate elements: pure Attic Greek.
5.clear; free from blemishes: pure skin.
6.(of literary style) straightforward; unaffected.
7.abstract or theoretical (opposed to applied): pure science.
8.without any discordant quality; clear and true: pure tones in music.
9.absolute; utter; sheer: to sing for pure joy.
10.being that and nothing else; mere: a pure accident.
11.clean, spotless, or unsullied: pure hands.
12.untainted with evil; innocent: pure in heart.
13.physically chaste; virgin.
14.ceremonially or ritually clean.
15.free of or without guilt; guiltless.
16.independent of sense or experience: pure knowledge
I know what you mean about it possibly having a clinical, clean association, but I’m hoping there are enough other sides to the word that it’ll work out. I like tranquil a lot too, but there are already reviews for the old tranquille out there and that could be confusing. Thanks so much for bringing it up though. It’s a very good point and something I do need to consider! She says as she worries again about her choice, lol….
Adding… will add your name to the draw! And last night I posted a pic of the first bottle. It’s on the webpage for the scent now.
