I hope to get time next week to go to a great clematis nursery very near me called Chalk Hill Clematis. I missed going last year when their lovely demonstration garden was in full bloom and I’d like to time my visit better this year (I was a bit too early last year). Clematis make wonderful companions for climbing roses, though most clematis are not scented. Some are harder to grow in our dry California summers, but if you choose carefully from their large variety you can find selections that will do well in your area. If you’re in Healdsburg it’s fun to see their garden and choose a couple clematis in person, but if you’re not in the area they will ship your order to you during their shipping season, which ends May 15 so it’s almost over for this year. Their online catalog is fun to see.
